Can stainless steel bellows be replaced by steel pipes?
2018-08-25 11:27:23

The stainless steel bellows is installed in the liquid conveying system as a flexible pressure-resistant pipe fitting to compensate the mutual displacement of the connecting end of the pipe or machine and equipment, absorb the vibration energy, and can play the role of vibration reduction, noise reduction, etc., with good flexibility and light weight. , corrosion resistance, anti-fatigue, high temperature resistance and many other characteristics. The value of the metal bellows stiffness required to produce a unit displacement of a metal bellows or other elastic element is referred to as the stiffness of the element and is generally indicated by a "K". If the elastic properties of the element are non-linear, the stiffness is no longer constant, but varies as the load increases. The stiffness given by the design of the nominal stiffness elastic element is called the nominal (or rated) stiffness. It has errors with the measured stiffness of the component, especially elastic components with nonlinear elastic properties.           The nominal stiffness represents the stiffness of the point on the curve and should be carefully considered. In general, the nominal stiffness is best not to use the design calculations directly, but rather to use the corrected values of the prototype after testing. Stiffness tolerance The range of dispersion allowed for stiffness when testing a batch of elastic components. For the same batch of elastic components, the rigidity of each component of the stainless steel metal hose is not the same, and there is a dispersion range. In order to ensure the performance of the components, it is necessary to have a limit on the range of stiffness dispersion. For elastic sensitive components, the stiffness tolerance requirement is limited to +/- 5% of the nominal value; for general engineering bellows-like elastic components, the stiffness tolerance can be limited to +/- 50%.

Stainless steel bellows are costly and the price is undoubtedly high. In order to reduce costs and improve efficiency, some people have used stainless steel bellows to replace the use of pure steel pipes, because the price of steel pipes is much lower. Is this the right operation? If everyone uses steel pipes instead, is there a market for stainless steel bellows? And can stainless steel bellows be replaced with steel pipes?

Stainless steel bellows

If the installation environment is relatively soft, it is feasible to use steel pipes instead of stainless steel bellows; however, if the installation environment needs to pass through relatively hard media, such as walls, rocks, etc., when the pipeline transports liquid, it will impact the pipe wall. , causing hard materials such as pipe walls and rocks to vibrate. If the vibration amplitude is too large, it will easily lead to cracks and breaks in the pipe wall. At this time, it is absolutely impossible to replace the bellows with ordinary stainless steel.

Because the stainless steel corrugated spiral design can effectively slow down the pipeline's conveying pressure, three metal pillars are arranged in the periphery, which can avoid direct contact between the pipeline and the installation environment, and slow down the pipeline impact force, thus effectively improving the service life of the stainless steel bellows. Therefore, whether the steel pipe can be used directly instead of the stainless steel bellows, the answer is self-evident. Stainless steel bellows must be used if piping pressure and piping installation requirements are high.
