Noted Chicago Printmaker Tony Fitzpatrick Visits Artists and Authors Gallery for a One Man Show and Poetry Reading - “The Autumn Etchings” opens May 22 during Marblehead’s inaugural Gallery Walk Weekend

MARBLEHEAD, Mass., May 10, 2004 – The extraordinary four-color etchings of Chicago printmaker Tony Fitzpatrick will be the focus of a one man show May 22 through June 20, 2004, at Artists + Authors Gallery, 108 Washington Street, Marblehead. Coinciding with the inaugural Marblehead Gallery Walk weekend, Artists + Authors will host an artist’s opening reception Saturday from 2:00-4:00 PM . On Sunday at 3:00 PM , Fitzpatrick will read from his book of Poetry, “BumTown,” followed by a discussion of the etchings featured in the show. Fitzpatrick will also be available to sign copies of his multiple books.

Inspired by a walk along the Bitterroot River in the mountains of Montana , Fitzpatrick's recent series of prints, The Autumn Etchings, consist of twelve five-plate color etchings of melancholy botanicals. The etchings combine the beauty of the natural world with Fitzpatrick’s trademark imagery, symbolism, and personal arcana.

Commenting on The Autumn Etchings, Art on Paper Magazine stated that, “Fitzpatrick allows his outsider tendencies free reign in this amazing series.”

Formerly a professional boxer, tattoo artist, radio personality, and actor ( Philadelphia , Normal Life, Primal Fear, Mad Dog and Glory ), Tony Fitzpatrick is a force on the contemporary art scene. With a focus on high quality printmaking, Fitzpatrick creates both small-scale and large-scale etchings of high precision that incorporate a personal vocabulary reminiscent of tarot cards and inspired by his life experiences. Fitzpatrick’s works command increasing national and international attention and are included in the permanent collections of such noteworthy institutions as the Museum of Modern Art , New York , The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
